Coaching can cover a number of topics. I never know what I’m going to end up talking about with my clients each month – not because I ‘wing it’, but because I coach from a client driven perspective – asking my clients how things are going, listening to their responses & then working my magic from there. But if there is a common theme I can identify, it’s that they all get frustrated by their social media marketing. And I totally get it. So do I.
Like my clients, I have limited time & resource to create social media marketing content – but equally like them, I need to do it to get eyes on my business, to get potential new clients to engage with me, connect with me & nurture that relationship until they are ready to take the next step with me.
The best way I use to describe it is to start by asking a question. That question is ‘when do DFS have a sale on?’
The answer? All the time. How do we know that? Because they tell us. All the time.
Welcome to the bustling virtual high street, where every business in the UK is vying for attention in a sea of pedestrians. Imagine this bustling street as the vast expanse of social media, and each business website as a unique shop eager to attract passersby. The challenge? Standing out in the crowd and enticing those busy virtual pedestrians to take a moment and peek inside your digital shop window.
The Social Media Dilemma
In this fast-paced digital world, social media is the heartbeat of the virtual high street. Small business owners eagerly set up shop, creating a presence on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. But here's the catch – with so many shops lined up side by side, getting noticed is no small feat.
The Pedestrian's Perspective
Now imagine yourself as the busy pedestrian, scrolling through your social media feed. Each shop (business) is trying to catch your eye with their equivalent of a sandwich board on the pavement – the social media post. Now, think about the last time a post genuinely made you stop and take notice. It probably had that magic mix of being engaging, relatable, or downright intriguing.
The Art of Engaging Posts
Small business owners are essentially having to be sandwich board artists, trying to craft posts that stand out. These posts need to go beyond the ordinary – they must capture attention, evoke curiosity, and make the pedestrian want to explore more. Think of it as creating a vivid and eye-catching display to draw people into your shop.
Beyond the Shopfront: Your Digital Window Display
Now, imagine the virtual shop window as your website – the central hub where pedestrians can explore your offerings, discover your story, and hopefully, become a customer. This is where the real challenge lies for small business owners – making that shop window (website content, blogs, videos, special offers) so compelling that the pedestrian can't resist taking the next step.
Crafting a Relevant Shop Window
Your shop window needs to resonate with your target market. If your ideal customers are window shopping for fashion, but your window is filled with unrelated items, they might walk on by. Tailor your content to your audience – speak their language, understand their pain points, and offer solutions.
The Role of Social Media in Driving Traffic
Your engaging social media posts act as the beckoning call, inviting people to peek inside. Once they enter your virtual shop, ensure they find what they came for – relevant content, a welcoming atmosphere, and perhaps a tempting offer that seals the deal.
The Coach's Touch: Refining the Art of Attraction
For small business owners navigating this busy virtual high street, the struggle is real. This is where a coach like me comes in. When I work with my clients, I am looking at their business from that high street, & I can help them make sure they are talking to their audience every step of the way. That external view of what your business looks like on that virtual high street can be the advantage you need to get ahead of your competitors & stand out from the crowd.
