KAPOW! Coaching doesn't work....

Sheena Whyatt·3 February 2020

Yes, you read that right. KAPOW! Coaching doesn’t work…….........at first…

Some of my clients have been coached by me for well over a year now.

What's really interesting, is how many of them talked to me about how they struggled to see KAPOW! coaching working for them to begin with. Some of them wondered if it was worth continuing with it when they didn't see results happening instantly (and some don’t – I’m all about transparency here), but what’s most interesting to me is that they all hit 3 key points in their first year of working with me - and what's even more interesting is that those 3 key points are pretty much the same for all of them - the 3, 6, and 9 months points.

The first two or 3 sessions of coaching with me builds the foundation of your coaching - it is fact finding - getting to know each other, me understanding your ‘why’ & getting you to communicate your ‘what’ and the ‘who’ behind what you do - and that takes a little time.

That doesn't mean I don't give you actionable plans to take your business forward right from the first session - but we need to get to know each other a bit before this stuff really starts to make sense.

One of my clients called the first three month point the ‘Holy Cow Batman!’ moment because all of a sudden she realised after the third session that this stuff was starting to make sense. That because I was taking the time to get to know her, her brand and her business I was making sensible suggestions to help her grow and grow her business too.

So what's interesting from that is the fact that to get past this and hit the 6 and 9 months points, my clients also have to have a bit of an epiphany at that 3 month point. They need to have their own ‘Holy Cow Batman’ moment, when they realise that this stuff is actually going to work if they implement it. They have to acknowledge that, take ownership of it and then get on and do it.

When you get to the 6 month point, the dialogue from my clients who have been working with me for more than a year is pretty much the same. They spend the initial 3 months thinking ‘how is this going to work?’ and then through the 3 to 6 months points, they realise that it's an investment in growing their brand & their business. That I'm holding them accountable, not judging them. That I give them actionable advice based on over 18 years experience of running my own business. And that is a really key point going forward.

At the six month point many of my clients then have the ‘oh bugger’ moment , that's when they realise that by implementing all the stuff we talk about, they really can move their business forward quickly and take actionable steps towards their goals. The ‘oh bugger’ moment comes when they realise that they haven't actually been doing that. And that listening back to the calls, reading the action notes & taking action to complete those tasks is absolutely essential to move their business forward.

By recognising that being part of the KAPOW! coaching academy is not just a series of one off calls but it's an ongoing commitment to growing their business, they start to knit all the yogurt together.

Talking to my clients after coaching some of the things that they talk about is feeling confident, energised, and empowered to do business rather than just be in business and that's really cool.

By the time they get to the 9 months & beyond moment, their outlook on their business is completely different. They understand that business coaching from me can help them make their dreams into tangible goals and their ideas into realistic tasks to move their brand & their business forward.

So KAPOW! doesn't work initially. Like anything you have to stick with it - commit to it - and make it part of how you grow your business.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in in 2020, why not give me a shout and let's get you on your way to your own 'Holy Cow Batman!' moment.
