One of my biggest challenges when talking about KAPOW! with people is getting them to understand what personal branding actually is.
Just so we are all on the same page – here is an actual definition:
Personal branding refers to the process of establishing your public persona for your target audience. It involves carefully and accurately communicating your values, beliefs, goals, and purpose.
OK?
Good.
The problem I face is that often, they get their minds stuck at the physical stuff – the way they present their business to the world – rather than how they present themselves to the world. And that then leads to them thinking they have their personal brand covered by their website/business cards/roller banner etc.
So, to get them thinking about how KAPOW! might help them, I talk about the kind of problems I can help with through the coaching programme or on a workshop – and I always start that conversation by asking them to tell me how their business makes them feel.
Yes, you read that right.
How their business makes them feel.
Not what they do, or how they do it, or what their challenges are (that comes later), but how they feel about their business. Because that tells me a lot about their personal brand and how they feel about that too.
Often, people want to talk to me about coming on a KAPOW! course or taking up a coaching spot because of some key things:
- They don't feel the same way about their business that they did when they started & they don't know how to fix that.
- They lack the confidence to develop their personal brand & they don’t know how to fix that.
- Their business has stagnated because they are not loving it & they don’t know how to fix that.
- They know that aren’t making the right impact for their business & they don’t know how to fix that.
- They know that they are lacking direction, clarity and planning to take their business forward & they don’t know how to fix that either.
So I help with all of that – because KAPOW! isn’t simply about one element of your personal brand, its about putting all the elements together into a brand that works for you, that your customers can identify with and that puts the oomph back into your business. And that puts the spring back in your step, the sparkle in your eye and the love back into how you feel about your business. Because if you don't truly love what you do and let that shine through in your personal brand, you are simply wasting your time.
Coming to a workshop allows you to focus on the big picture for your brand, and working with me on an individual basis allows me to help you focus on how you apply that. The biggest successes come from people who have been to a Your Brand, Your Way workshop AND who take up coaching or a series of Power Hours to keep them focussed and on track. Some people have even done this three times or more!
My third time to the KAPOW! personal branding day and found there is still much to take away. The exercises reconfirmed what my personal branding is - and what it is NOT! Getting an understanding of how this influences your customer base is a must do! So I highly recommend taking time to develop & market your brand with the KAPOW! programme. - Sue Armstrong, Aurora Tax Planners
